SPDs that are intended to be installed between the secondary side of the service of the service transformer and the primary side of the service entrance disconnect.

Type 2:
SPDs that are intended to be connected on the secondary/load side of the main service disconnect.

Type 3:
SPD's that are typically cord connected surge strips, also known as "Point of Use SPDs".

Type 4:
SPDs that are components or assembly type devices.  These devices are typically installed in end-use products.
